Jose Escobar-Hernandez, 21, is the prime suspect in the Jan. 13 robbery that left a 77-year-old man with a non-fatal gunshot wound on Chestnut Street, Reading police told Daily Voice.

Investigators say they were surveilling Escobar-Hernandez at around 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan, 23, when they watched him walk into a building. When he exited, police gave chase, and the 21-year-old was arrested after a brief pursuit, authorities said.

Court records show Escobar-Hernandez is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and illegal firearm possession — all felonies under Pennsylvania law. He remains in the Berks County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond and will return to court for a preliminary on Feb. 3.
